Drifters Overview

Not too long ago I moved closer to a beach that collects driftwood on its banks of sand and rocks.

I first discovered these Salish Sea communities in 2021. It was in late 2024 when we began to communicate and in 2025 we really started to bond. Discoveries made while exploring their beaches have led me beyond just their beautiful forms. They have become visceral inspiration for understanding humanity. This body of work has grown broad enough to encompass three sizable groupings: Portraits; Portal Keepers; Drifters in the Rough. This gallery is an overview with a few images from each group. For now I leave it for you to imagine stories that might accompany these images.

How can drifters offer insights to our human world? We as humans have the ability to imagine. Use it while viewing abstract images, maybe pretend it's a dream vision. Now you're off and running! The next thing you know your senses 'see' life expanded. I must admit, though it doesn't happen to everyone, it's rather the norm for me. Looking at drifters inspires release and application of human thoughts that feel much like conversation or some form of communication.

On Instagram I've been posting Drifter images with inspired captions for most of the last year. Captions usually conceived at posting time. They run the gamut of type, length, and subject, including basic description or silence, insightfulness, political thinking, and occasional corniness—kinda like life!
